WIKI Reflection Blog
I reluctantly accepted the job to be the leader of the BYOD group. I have
had bad experiences in the past and was not going to volunteer. The experience has
turned out better than other experiences with collaborative group work that I
have had in the past. During this activity, I created a blog for the first time
which was an interesting experience. My knowledge of modern online learning
delivery models was definitely enhanced by this exercise. I still am not a big
proponent of synchronous activities in on online class because it is usually
too difficult to get everybody together in today’s busy working world. High
tempo contribution is also difficult to ensure because of our busy lifestyles.
I think collaborative work is a difficult hurdle to overcome in an online learning
environment. Using BYOD in classroom collaboration works better because
students meet every day to resynch the group’s efforts. I did learn a lot about
BYOD and I definitely see its potential in modern education.
As a curriculum designer in a military setting, I am not
sure I will ever see BYOD being used in secure environments because of the
vulnerabilities it opens up in digital networks. It was nice to see its
applications in public school settings however and I did not realize all of the
security and infrastructure considerations that need to be taken into account
when implementing this technology.
